Composition characteristics: high carbon and high chromium, the carbon content of CR12 steel is 2.00-2.30%, is the highest carbon content of steel, the average chromium content is 12%, is the highest chromium content of alloy steel steel.
Micro-structure characteristics: The composition characteristics determine that CR12 steel is a lastenitic steel. There are a lot of eutectic carbides in the micro-structure, and the carbide content (volume fraction) during quenching is about 13-20%. Heat treatment features: CR12 steel and two heat treatment schemes, ① the use of lower quenching temperature with low temperature tempering, known as a hardening method; ② The use of higher quenching temperature with multiple high temperature tempering, secondary hardening, known as the secondary hardening method.
CR12 steel contains a large number of eutectic carbides, which do not participate in the phase transformation during heat treatment, and there are a lot of residual Austenite (10%-40% volume fraction) in the quenched structure. Therefore, the quenched distortion is very small, which is also known as the slightly altered row die steel. Properties: Due to the amount of carbides in the steel, it has high wear resistance, in addition, it has high thermal stability. This kind of steel has poor toughness and low high humidity thermoplasticity.
