AISI1018 Steel VS AISI 1020 Steel

             Do you know how to distinguish the steel of AISI1018 and the steel of AISI 1020 ?

It it very common to use for steel AISI1020 in normal production of our life .

Generally ,AISI 1020 with more stock quantity in China.

 

Steel Marketing as the below situation :

Specification of AISI 1020 :

1.T:10-350mm   W:2000-2400mm , L:6000-13000mm

Condition: hot rolled and black surface condition mostly .

Delivery time : ≤7-15days with the inventory

2. T:≤10 mm    W:1200-1300mm   L:no limited

Condition:  cold drawn

Delivery time : 20-30days with new production

3. T:≥350 mm with condition with forged and bright surface mostly .

The delivery time with 50-60 days .

It need to do the inspection according with D/D class of UT .

        For the steel of AISI 1018 , the size and condition usually with same as AISI 1020 in the supply of China Steel Marketing .

But AISI 1018 mostly with new production , no more inventory because AISI 1018 with less usage in China marketing , they prefer to use AISI 1020 due to this steel AISI 1020 with inventory and good price compared with AISI 1018 which it is also the carbon steel but its price and lead time with not so goods with the AISI 1020 .

     But there will have some inventory of AISI 1018 which depend on the stock quantity of the steel marketing .

 

As this reason , mostly of China Steel Supplier prefer to choose AISI 1020 to instead of AISI 1018 under the consideration of the cost and lead time .

Meanwhile , its application with almost same .

 

Content of AISI 1018:

AISI1018	0.15-0.20	0.60-0.90	≤0.040	≤0.050

Content of AISI 1020:

Grade	C	Mn	P	S
AISI1020	0.18-0.23	0.30-0.60	≤0.040	≤0.050

● Mechanical properties of AISI 1018 :

Tensile strength σ B (MPa) : ≥450(46)

Yield strength σ S (MPa) : ≥275(28)

Elongation δ5 (%) : ≥24

ψ (%) : ≥50

Hardness: ≤197HB without heat treatment

Sample size: sample size is 25mm

Heat treatment specification and metallographic structure:

Heat treatment specification: normalizing,910℃.

● Delivery status: no heat treatment or heat treatment (annealing, normalizing or high temperature tempering) state delivery.
