M2 steel is a molybdenum high-speed steel, which has the advantages of small carbide unevenness and high toughness.
M2 steel is easy to overheat, so the quenching heating temperature should be strictly controlled, and the heat treatment protection requirements are strict too. Because of its good hardness and wear resistance performance.M2 steel generally to manufacture the tools are difficult to cut materials.
M2 steel has a greater tendency to carbides, so it has strict requirements for heat treatment protection and is suitable for molds that can withstand vibration and impact loads.
M2 usually with hardness for ≤255 HB while from the factory , its quenching tempering with 1220-1240 ℃,with ≤63 HB .
M2 normally take to manufacturing the Cold forging dies, fine punching dies, powder pressing dies, etc., shearing machine dies, plastic dies with glass fiber addition, etc.
Meanwhile , it is suitable for molds that bear vibration and impact loads: deep drawing molds, punching molds. Metal cutting saw blades, cold heading and extrusion tools, etc.
M2 high speed steel
(1) The characteristics of die steel M2 high-speed steel belongs to the molybdenum series high-speed tool steel. From the perspective of ensuring specific hardness, Mo and W have similar functions. The steel has the advantages of small carbide unevenness and high toughness, but there are two major shortcomings, which limit its application. First, the tendency of decarburization is greater, so the requirements for heat treatment protection are strict; the second is that the grains have a greater tendency to grow and are prone to overheating, so the quenching heating temperature should be strictly controlled.
(2) Delivery status and hardness: Annealed state, hardness 248HBS; cold drawn state, hardness 262HBS; cold drawn state, annealing hardness 255HBS.
(3) Refer to the corresponding steel grade, the United States UNS standard steel grade T11302, and the United States ASTM/AISI/SAE standard steel grade M2 (normal carbon).
(4) Thermal processing specification with the starting temperature is 1040~1150℃, and the ending temperature is 930℃.
(5) Annealing specification with temperature is 820~870℃, and the hardness after annealing is 207~235HBS.
(6) General quenching and tempering specifications: The quenching temperature is 1190~1230℃, the quenching medium is oil, air cooling or salt bath, the tempering temperature is 540~600℃, and the hardness is 65~60HRC.
(7) Mold quenching and tempering specifications Preheating temperature is 730~850℃, quenching temperature is 1216℃ in salt bath furnace, controllable atmosphere furnace is 1227℃, tempering temperature is 550℃, and hardness after tempering is ≥64HRC.
(8) Examples of typical applications of M2 high-speed steel
① Suitable for molds that bear vibration and impact load: deep drawing molds, punching molds.
②Metal cutting saw blades, cold heading and extrusion tools, etc.
