GCr15 steel is a representative grade of high carbon chromium bearing steel with good comprehensive performance. After quenching and tempering, the hardness is high and uniform, wear resistance and contact fatigue strength is high. Good thermal processing. Good machined-ability after spheroidizing annealing, but sensitive to white spot formation. It is mainly used for manufacturing steel balls, rollers and bushings on the drive shafts of internal combustion engines, electric locomotives, machine tools, tractors, steel rolling equipment, drilling machines, railway vehicles and mining machinery .

The basic quality requirement of bearing steel is purity and uniform organization. Purity means less impurity elements and non-metallic sundries, and uniform organization means that carbides in steel should be fine and evenly distributed. The higher the inclusion content, the shorter the life. In order to improve the smelting quality, electric furnace smelting and electroslag remelting have been adopted recently, vacuum smelting, vacuum consumable refining and other new processes to improve the quality of bearing steel.
