AISI 8620 steel heat treatment
- Annealing:
AISI 8620 steel can be fully annealed by heating to 820℃ -850 ℃ until the temperature is uniform throughout the section and cooled in the furnace or air-cooled.
- Tempering:
Heat treatment of 8620 steel and tempering of water quenched parts (non-carburized) are performed at 400 ° F to 1300 ° F to improve surface toughness with minimal impact on hardness.
This will also reduce the possibility of grinding cracks.
- Hardening:
AISI 8620 steel will undergo Austenitizing at about 840°C to 870°C, followed by oil or water quenching depending on section size and complexity.It needs to be cooled in air or oil.
The normalization of1675ºF(910ºC) and air cool.This is another way to improve the machined-ability of 8620 materials.
Normalizing can also be used before the surface is hardened.
